“It is important for children to play sports. Specifically boxing, my favourite sport, gives a lot – determination, determination, initiative, perseverance, will and courage. Boxing is not just about facing an opponent and trading punches. Being able to defend yourself is the last thing this sport gives you. It teaches you to fight with your weaknesses, to be disciplined and most importantly: to fight yourself,” Bulgarian middleweight champion Vladimir Georgiev told BGNES during the children’s sports festival “Healthy child is active and happy child” at the National Sports Academy (NSA) “Vasil Levski”. The Sports in Bulgaria Foundation sponsors the event, the main idea of which is to encourage systematic sports activities and increase the sports culture of children from an early age. Special guest was Georgiev, supported by the Foundation.
“For me personally, boxing has given me more self-esteem and confidence in life. I don’t worry about failing. The important thing is to succeed one time,” he continued.
Georgiev also talked about what’s next for him, “I needed a break. I needed to take a break. I had a match with Juan Ruiz, who is the South American champion, and I won. After that I fought for a European and a world title. I fell a little short, but I don’t regret anything. Now I start preparing for the next match, which will be in July. The opponent is not clear.”
The boxer is extremely grateful to the Sport in Bulgaria Foundation for the support.
“Thanks to them I have the opportunity to do what I love. Patience is needed in sport. You can lose, you can get hurt, you can be left without money, which is the most common problem in Bulgaria. Everyone makes all kinds of sacrifices, works five jobs, doesn’t sleep, looks after the family. I can focus entirely on boxing, thanks to the Sport in Bulgaria Foundation, for which I am very grateful. I train all day and only dream of titles,” concluded Georgiev.
