The famous Bulgarian swimmer Tsanko Tsankov met with the young football hopes from the Levski Academy. The juniors of the U-16 team, coached by Dimitar Andonov, had the opportunity to meet the swimmer, who at the end of August 2023 became the first Bulgarian to swim the distance of 36 km between Los Angeles and Catalina Island in the cold waters of the Pacific Ocean. The event was organized by the Sport in Bulgaria Foundation with the help of Elin Topuzakov, who heads the PFC Levski Academy..
During the meeting, the successful athlete shared the difficulties he went through in his professional career and gave valuable advice to the young talents. The swimmer gave a short motivational speech about his preparation, and his head coach Nikolay Iliev invited them to an open swimming lesson with the champion.
Levski’s juniors had the opportunity to watch the short film The Champion of the Pacific – Tsanko Tsankov, , created especially for the athlete’s latest achievement – swimming the 36 kilometers between Los Angeles and Catalina Island.
“It is a pleasure to meet you – the rising talents of Bulgarian football. Discipline is one of the most important qualities for an athlete to strive to build. What makes us good is the will not to give up when faced with difficulties. Don’t rely on your talent alone because success is achieved with hard work and discipline. Set goals and fight to the end to achieve them. And remember that the efforts you make today will be rewarded tomorrow,” said Tsankov with the Levski boys.
Before the event, the swimmer met Levski owner Nasko Sirakov and the team’s head coach Nikolay Kostov. At the end of 2023, just before Levski’s last home game of the season, Tsanko was presented with a number 9 jersey and was cheered by the blue supporters at Georgi Asparuhov Stadium..
