Tsanko Tsankov managed to swim the Cook Strait in record time, his manager Niki Iliev proudly said. The Bulgarian, who made his dream come true, thanks to the help of Sport in Bulgaria Foundation, made a real feat in the Pacific Ocean, as the conditions were more than difficult throughout the swim.
The strong currents and water temperature of 12.7 degrees brought several hypothermic crises to the competitor , but Tsanko swam to the end and achieved the fastest time for 2024 of all swimmers – 6 hours and 23 minutes.
The distance on the lead boat was 30.5 kilometers from Perano Bay on the South Island to Terrafitti Coast on the North Island.
Tsankov could have finished much faster , but strong currents 3500 meters before the end forced him to deviate from the route. In the end everything ended successfully and safely for the Bulgarian team.
Tsanko Tsankov’s achievement is his third in the Ocean seven circuit of the WOWSA World Federation.
Immediately after the end of the swim, the two New Zealand judges who were on the boat considered the marathon successful! The athlete is currently in good health with normal values and indicators after the examination by the medical people.
