I think both me and Stiliana can fight for the medals in the all-around quite realistically. We just wish each other a calm and error-free game. This is what Boryana Kalein said in a joint interview with Stiliana Nikolova for BGNES before today’s celebratory lunch at 888 Taste Show Asian Cuisine, in the Palms Royale Sofia complex, on the occasion of the strong performance of our gymnasts at the European Championships in Budapest.
In the Hungarian capital, Kalein snatched the hoop title and bronze on the clubs, while Nikolova triumphed in the all-around and won silver on the hoop.
“This European Championships was very successful. I am personally very happy with my performance and I am very happy with this competition,” said Styliana about her performance at the European Championships, while Boryana added: “It was indeed a very successful European Championships for the whole Bulgarian team. We came back with as many medals as participants. We can say that the mission is over accomplished”.
Speaking specifically about the past championship, Kalein said, “I am personally satisfied with the way I played in the qualifiers and the finals. In the all-around I didn’t perform in the best possible way, but we did a review with the coaches and we know what we have to work on for the Olympics.” And Nikolova accounted for her mistakes in qualifying. “I had some inaccuracies and mistakes in qualifying, but overall I had a very strong competition and I’m happy with it.
At the end of July, our athletes will compete in the Olympics in Paris. About her chances for a medal in the French capital, Boryana said. We just wish ourselves a calm and faultless game,” while Stiliana added: “Let’s hope we play in a very dignified way.”
Regarding her competition at the Summer Games, Kalein said she has no worries and the focus is entirely on our routines. “No worries I would say. Of course, we’re not underestimating our competition in any way, but at the end of the day it’s how we do our job and how we perform that’s important, so we’re fully focused on that.”
Both gymnasts thanked the Sport in Bulgaria Foundation for their continued support. “We are very grateful to the Sport in Bulgaria Foundation for their support and trust in us,” Nikolova said, while Kaleyn added: “We are grateful to the Sport in Bulgaria Foundation for supporting Bulgarian sport, for always having our backs, regardless of whether we perform at our best or not so much – there is nothing to say except ‘thank you’!” she concluded.
