A glamorous ceremony presented the premiere of Andrei Andonov’s series “The Way”, dedicated to the first Olympic title for Bulgarian rhythmic gymnastics. Guests at the Ivan Vazov National Theatre saw footage of the Bulgarian ensemble winning the gold medal in Tokyo.
Among the official guests of the event was the Executive Director of the Sport in Bulgaria Foundation Vyara Velikova. At the beginning of 2024, the Foundation announced its support to the current Bulgarian ensemble and individual rhythmic gymnastics athletes as part of its mission to support the development of professional sport in Bulgaria. “Olympic gold is a title every athlete longs for. This is not just a documentary series, but a snippet from the lives of girls who have made Bulgaria and Bulgarian sport famous around the world,” said Vyara Velikova.
The premiere was also honoured by the President of the Republic of Bulgaria Rumen Radev, Vice President Iliana Iotova, Sports Minister Dimitar Iliev, Olympic champion Vesela Lecheva, BOC President Stefka Kostadinova. Milo Borisov and Rossi McKee, the ultimate owners of the majority shareholder of Telematic Interactive Bulgaria AD, and the company’s CEO Lachezar Petrov, also attended the premiere of “The Road”.
The series is made up of authentic footage combining intriguing stories and exciting moments related to the Diamond Girls’ journey to winning Olympic gold at Tokyo 2020.
“The film has a strong message,” said the President of the BFHG Iliana Raeva. “It is that sport is a social phenomenon that can make you a winner and make you experience catharsis, after which you stand up even stronger. When you have a big dream and the road is hard and difficult, you have to believe until the end that you will make it come true,” added Iliana Raeva.
The series, dedicated to Simona Djankova, Madlen Radukanova, Laura Traats, Stefani Kiriakova, Erika Zafirova, together with their coaches Vesela Dimitrova and Michaela Maevska, individual athletes Boryana Kalein and Katrin Taseva with their coaches Mariana Pamukova and Branimira Markova will be broadcast every Saturday from January 20 at 15:00 on bTV.
