Boryana Kaleyn won a silver medal in the individual event at the Olympic gymnastics tournament in Paris.
The grace finished with a total of 140.600 points. She received the second-highest scores on the hoop and shot put at 35.850 and 36.450, respectively, and third on the clubs at 34.550. On the last apparatus, the ribbon, Kaleyn was also the best with a score of 33.750 points.
In the competition, 17-year-old Darya Warfolomeev of Germany topped the competition with a total of 142.850. She was the top scorer on the first three apparatus and second on the ribbon. The bronze medal went to Sofia Raffaelli of Italy with 136.300.
Our other representative at the Games in Paris – Styliana Nikolova, failed to pass the qualification in the all-around, leaving 11th. Kaleyn’s silver is Bulgaria’s second in the individual event after Adriana Dunavska’s silver in Seoul 1988.
In the final of the all-around in the ensembles, the native graces ranked fourth. They were second to last after the first part of the final, then they performed great in their second routine, but it was only enough for fourth position in the final standings.
On the first routine, the ensemble made mistakes on the 5 hoop composition, but showed character and picked themselves up for the second part of the final. The golden girls were error free in the 3 ribbons and 2 balls routine and received a score of 33.700 which was the strongest of all eight ensembles. Bulgaria’s score, however, was 67.800 and was 0.300 behind that of the Italian girls who took the bronze medal.
The Bulgarians also took part in the official closing ceremony of the Olympic Games in Paris and are expected to return to Bulgaria on 12 August.
