The premiere of Champion of the Pacific - Hawaii presented the last heroic act of Tsanko Tsankov

The documentary film “Champion of the Pacific – Hawaii” was presented yesterday at Club Black & White, part of the Palms Royale Sofia complex in Grand Hotel Millennium Sofia. The film follows the extraordinary journey of Tsanko Tsankov, who, at the end of last year, completed the longest marathon swim of the Ocean’s Seven challenge—crossing the Molokai Channel between Molokai and Oahu in the Pacific Ocean. Among the distinguished guests attending the event was Rossi McKee, founder of Foundation Sport in Bulgaria.

What makes me truly happy is how well the film is being received. It has a strong motivational impact, especially on children, as we have already presented it in dozens of schools across the country. Seeing the way children watch the film, I believe it will have a lasting impact on their future. Every time I watch it, it takes me back to the challenges I faced during those 16 grueling hours in the Pacific Ocean,” Tsanko shared before the screening.

The documentary captures the extreme conditions of the 16-hour marathon, highlighting the strong currents, unpredictable weather, and immense physical endurance required to complete such a feat. The audience was given an in-depth look at the emotions, preparation, and resilience that transformed this challenge into a historic achievement.

For Tsanko, this is not just a personal project but a mission that puts Bulgaria on the global map of open water swimming. He overcomes every obstacle, proving that mental resilience and perseverance are key to success. These are the qualities that should inspire and drive the next generation,” said Rossi McKee, founder of Foundation Sport in Bulgaria.

What’s Next for Tsanko Tsankov?

In 2024, Tsankov is aiming to take on his next major challenge in the Ocean’s Seven series—the Tsugaru Strait in Japan. He is currently in correspondence with the Japan Swimming Federation, having submitted the necessary documents for participation. A final decision on whether he will be able to compete this year is expected by mid-February.

Meanwhile, Tsankov is preparing to compete in the World Cup for Ice Swimming, which will take place in Gdańsk, Poland, from February 5 to 10, where he will compete in three disciplines.

Later in the year, he is planning an attempt to break the world record and Guinness World Record for 24-hour nonstop swimming in a 25-meter pool. This challenge, set to take place in his hometown of Burgas, is expected to be one of the most demanding feats of his career.
