In 2024, Foundation “Sport in Bulgaria” implemented numerous exciting initiatives and partnerships, highlighting its strong commitment to the development of Bulgarian sports and the support of outstanding talents. The Foundation not only supported established athletes but also actively participated in organizing prestigious events that inspire both competitors and audiences.
One of the main highlights of the year was the support for the talented chess player Nurgul Salimova. In January, the Foundation organized a meeting between her and the students of the 31st High School of Mathematics “Ivan Vazov”, providing young chess players with the opportunity to be inspired by her achievements. Additionally, the Foundation actively supported the National Chess Championship for men and women held in Sofia in August, which brought together the best national chess players and attracted great attention.
The Foundation also partnered with BG Radio to create the sports show “Sport in BG.” This show provided listeners with their Saturday dose of adrenaline and passion, featuring some of the biggest names in Bulgarian sports, as well as athletes supported by the Foundation.
The continued support for the national rhythmic gymnastics team cannot go unnoticed. The Foundation organized a visit for the team to the performance of “Jelezniyat svetilnik” at the Bulgarian Army Theatre and awarded the best-performing foreign gymnast during the Rhythmic Gymnastics World Cup in Sofia. A festive lunch was also organized to honour the success of the Bulgarian gymnasts at the European Championship in Budapest, where they won the team title and eight additional medals. The Foundation also sponsored the National Club Championship in rhythmic gymnastics, which took place in Sofia in October.
Throughout the year, the Foundation supported the swimming initiatives of Tsanko Tsankov, producing three films about him. One of the most memorable moments was the organized meeting between Tsankov and the young football talents from the Levski Academy. The footballers were inspired by Tsankov’s achievements as the first Bulgarian to swim the 36-kilometer distance between Los Angeles and Catalina Island. Additionally, the Foundation sponsored the International Swimming Marathon “Port-Burgas,” which attracted swimmers from around the world.
Among other important partnerships during the year was the collaboration with the “Wrestling – Levski” sports club. The Foundation also participated in organizing a football seminar with LALIGA, where representatives from leading Spanish clubs took part. One of the most impressive projects supported by the Foundation was the creation of the digital museum of PFC “Levski.” This virtual museum presents the team’s heritage through 3D models of valuable artifacts, which can be viewed by Levski fans in Bulgaria and around the world with a club membership card.
These initiatives, along with the Foundation’s other projects, highlight its ongoing commitment to promoting Bulgarian athletes and encouraging the development of sports in Bulgaria, providing the next generation of talents with opportunities for success and inspiration.
