The fourth edition of the International Swimming Marathon “Port-Burgas” demonstrated record interest. A total of 217 swimmers from 8 countries (Bulgaria, Romania, North Macedonia, Serbia, Germany, Austria, Russia and Ukraine) took part in it. The competition, organized by the swimmer Tsanko Tsankov and the club of swimming sports “Pobeda”, was held in the water area of the Sea Station Burgas and included disciplines of 1000 and 3000 meters.
The swimming conditions were extremely favorable, which made the fight for the first places even more challenging. The winner of the men’s 1000 m was Yordan Yanchev with a time of 12 minutes and 32 seconds, followed by Daren Kirilov (12.34 min.). In the women’s race, Laura Velikova won the gold with 13.30 min, second was Kalina Zaharieva (13.31 min). The men’s 3000m champion was Daren Kirilov (37:16 min), while Laura Velikova triumphed in the women’s event with 40:46 min.
Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Stoyan Andonov opened the official part of the event, which was supported by the Sports in Bulgaria Foundation, Burgas Municipality, Naval Forces, Port Burgas and other partners.
Tsanko Tsankov was pleased with the marathon, which for him is a real celebration of swimming. This year, the Bulgarian swimmer is still to swim a distance of 100 km in the Danube on September 6, and in November to face the challenge of swimming the Molokai Strait, part of the Ocean Seven.
