On the way to the Olympic Games - Bulgaria's excellent performance in the rhythmic gymnastics home tournaments
Excellent performance of Bulgaria in the home tournaments in rhythmic gymnastics, which took place in the first half of April. The gymnasts, supported by the Sport in Bulgaria Foundation, won a total of eight medals in Arena Sofia during the Rhythmic Gymnastics World Cup. Bulgaria also dominated the first week of April when, during the Sofia Cup International Tournament, it won a total of fourteen medals.
For three days, Arena Sofia was a stage of grace and perfection, where sportsmanship and beauty harmoniously intertwined. The combinations impressed with technicality, but also a lot of imagination.
Boryana Kaleyn won the gold medal in the all-around and the silver medal in the finals of the clubs, Styliana Nikolova took the silver medal in the all-around, two gold medals in the shot put and ribbon and the silver medal in the hoop. The ensemble took the bronze medal in the all-around and grabbed the silver medal in the finals of the shot put and ribbon combination.
In the shot put final Styliana Nikolova was perfect, she performed her Arabian Nights composition from Aladdin brilliantly and with all risks and took the gold with an amazing score of 36.950 points, which was the highest score of the whole tournament.
The level of performance of all the gymnasts was extremely high, with a huge impression on the Bulgarian audience made by the representative of Israel Daria Atamanov, to whom the Sports in Bulgaria Foundation gave the award for the best foreign gymnast during the entire Cup. The prize was presented by the founder of the organisation, Rossi McKee.
“It is my great pleasure to present the special award to Daria Atamanov from Israel for her impressive performance. We are proud that as a foundation we have the opportunity to support this prestigious forum that brought together the elite of rhythmic gymnastics,” said Ms McKee after presenting the award.
The international tournament “Sofia Cup” also gathered huge interest. The performance of our individual athletes Boryana Kaleyn, Elvira Krasnobayeva and Nicole Todorova at the tournament, which gathered representatives from a total of 36 countries, was extremely strong.
The Sport in Bulgaria Foundation was one of the main partners of the two sporting spectacles, which play a key role for the Golden Girls in their preparation for the Olympic Games in Paris this summer. There, Bulgaria will be represented by the women’s national ensemble, as well as two individual athletes who will be announced after the European Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships in Budapest in May.
