We are proud of Tsanko, we stand firmly behind him from the Sport in Bulgaria Foundation. This is what one of the founders of the Foundation, Rossi McKee, said in an interview with BGNES upon Tsanko Tsankov’s return from the World Ice Swimming Championships in Tallinn, Estonia.
There the 36-year-old swimmer won two gold medals in the 200 and 450 m freestyle, as well as a bronze in the 25 m butterfly.
McKee revealed how the support for Tsankov by the Sport in Bulgaria Foundation started. “We are proud of Tsanko, he is one of the young Bulgarian athletes that Sport in Bulgaria Foundation supports. We started supporting Tsanko together with his manager Nikki Iliev last year when he started training for swimming one of the seven most difficult marathons in open waters – between Santa Catalina Island and the coast of Los Angeles. In fact, we have been working with Tsanko since last year, accompanying him all the time, being with him, participating in the filming and production of a movie – “Champion of the Pacific”, she began and continued:
Tsanko is one of the athletes we try to look after through the Foundation and be with him all the way to winning world titles. He arrived after the two gold medals he won for ice swimming in Tallinn, Estonia, so Tsanko is a world champion – let us rejoice in his achievements. Yes, of course, we stand behind him – during this swim (b.ed. – New Zealand, Cook Strait). Next up, Hawaii. For his programme he has set two destinations this year – so last year he did the Pacific, the year before he did Gibraltar – if he can do the other two this year, he will have three destinations left to cover the seven records.
McKee also talked about the Foundation itself and its purpose. She is one of its founders along with her brother Milo Borisov. “Sport in Bulgaria Foundation was founded by me and my brother Milo Borisov, and we stood behind the cause to support sports initiatives, professional and amateur teams, young athletes, because we believe that sport educates in discipline, in high moral values. We hope that young people will more and more embrace this direction of development instead of their time spent in front of digital devices,” she concluded.
